In September 2011, the Department of Energy issued a $1.2 billion loan guarantee to finance California Valley Solar Ranch, a 250-MW photovoltaic (PV) solar generation project. The project reached full commercial operations in October 2013.

California Valley Solar Ranch is the first utility-scale PV project in the United States to utilize T-0 single-axis trackers in combination with the wireless tracker monitoring and control system (TMAC). The trackers and TMAC will improve annual output by approximately 25%, compared to traditional fixed installations.

With 164 turbines and a total capacity of 500 MW, High Lonesome is the largest operational wind farm in Enel’s global portfolio. Construction began in January 2019 and operations at the first 450 MW portion of the project started in December 2019. 57 MW / 85.7 MWh of battery storage systems started construction in June 2021 and will commence operations in the summer of 2022. The project sited across a 200-square-mile footprint can generate 1.9 TWh annually while avoiding the emission of 1.2 million tons of CO2 per year.

The Aurora wind farm occupies 48,000 acres in Williams and Mountrail counties, North Dakota, adjacent to Enel’s Lindahl wind farm. Using 71 turbines, the plant is expected to generate around 1.3 TWh of sustainable energy each year, equivalent to the electricity needs of over 100,000 US households annually. This will eliminate 850,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year. Operations are due to commence in December 2020.
